What is Spiritual Healing?
The Word of God tells us, “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Every breath we take, every beat of our heart, is sustained by Jesus. He created our bodies in a way that is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), woven together with both what is seen and what is unseen.
Sometimes pain, loss, or stress can weigh us down in ways that aren’t just physical but spiritual too. Jesus came to restore us—spirit, soul, and body. When we bring our breath, our awareness, and our hearts before Him, we make space for His Spirit to flow freely through us.
Some call this “energy,” but we, as children of God, understand it as His life-giving Spirit moving within us. Practices like those found in The Energy Codes can be received prayerfully—as tools to help us notice where we are burdened, and then invite Jesus, the Great Healer, into those very places.
So we breathe, not just air, but the breath of God. We release, not just tension, but the weight of our cares. And we open, not just our bodies, but our hearts to Christ, who said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
Scripture teaches that “all things were created through Him and for Him, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16–17). That includes not only the physical body but also the unseen systems that science is just beginning to describe—what some refer to as “energy.”
Dr. Sue Morter’s work in The Energy Codes explores how stress and trauma can leave imprints in the body, and how intentional practices like breathwork and awareness can bring release. As Christians, we don’t look to energy itself for healing—we look to Christ. But we can recognize these practices as tools that help us cooperate with God’s design.
Think of it this way: prayer, fasting, or even laying on of hands are practices God uses as channels of His healing power. In the same way, learning to breathe deeply, focus attention, and calm the body can prepare a place for the Holy Spirit to move.
When we frame these practices in Christ, they become invitations to His presence. What some might call “energy alignment,” we can understand as allowing the Spirit of God to restore balance, peace, and wholeness. The key difference is this: we acknowledge Jesus as the source of all healing, not ourselves, not the practice, not the “energy.”
In this way, we stay rooted in the truth that “by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5), while also embracing the wisdom of how God has intricately designed our bodies to respond to His Spirit.
Spiritual Healing Is very individual and each person has different needs.
